SGCA Gradena Golden Nugget of Ajooba

We contribute to the Bengal HCM research Fund at the Winn Foundation  and HCM scan our cats annually

Due to the loss of 2 of our  Bengal boys in January 2010 to acute heart failure and HCM we have decided to scan all our breeding cats yearly for any cardiac defects including HCM. We also lost Ajooba Kiki Jewel of the Nyla and Ajooba Seiki to FIP in 2010. Both these cats were bred and sold by us as pets and we no longer have their bloodlines here. We are open about any issues in our cats and kittens and are happy to discuss in depth and length the implications of cardiac problems found in the breed. We also uphold the statutory rights of our kitten owners and should a cardiac defect be responsible for the death, as per a vets postmortem report, of a kitten where neglect  is not implicated we will refund or replace the kitten as per our contract with our kitten owners.

We are using FAB (Feline Advisory Bureau) approved cardiologists. We have also been fortunate enough to have advice and guidance form leading  feline cardiologists in the USA. We stress we do not have the blood lines of the boys we lost here anymore but all Bengals are at risk of HCM like many other cats.

Please note the nature of our current screening test only tells us if our cats are affected at the time but not if they will ever develop the disease. Valid screening results for HCM in Bengal cats should be current for the past 12 months.

Kittens

All available kittens have now gone to their new homes.

Cardiac Defects

We take great pride in matching the right kitten to the right home. Although all our kittens have very good temperaments as the result of the time we spend raising them, some are better suited to living in bustling busy families and some would prefer a quiet household. We can tell which is which by observing them develop their personalities from birth and watching their interaction with other kittens, cats and us.

Taking this extra time and giving this attention means we are more likely to successfully home a kitten without stress reactions such as eliminating outside the litter box if our advise is followed fully. We are always  ready to help new owners if there are concerns and issues regarding settling their kitten into their home.
